Exercise - the magic solution•
Posted on January 09 2020
We are all busy women; we want a quick fix - for our expanding waistlines, our aching joints, insomnia, low mood or lack of energy. It’s so much easier to use a cream, a potion or a prescription to sort things out. But here’s the thing, there is something out there that has miraculous benefits.
This magic solution can:
- Help you to lose weight
- Tone your muscles
- Fight fatigue
- Improve your sleep
- Lift your mood
- Increase your bone density
- Reduce your risk of cancer, dementia, stroke and heart disease by up to 50%
Sounds too good to be true, but for once it’s not. Of course, the solution is EXERCISE. Don’t stop reading…we know how hard it is to motivate yourself to exercise during the menopause transition, but we know of several self-confessed exercise haters to get moving and they love the way it makes them feel (it can be done!).
Exercise doesn’t have to be hard work or painful, you just have to find something that you enjoy and do it regularly. Some love walking and talking, others like yoga or swimming or dancing - all exercise is good. Ideally we need to do at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity exercise every week, that means doing something that makes you breathe harder, raises your heart rate and makes you feel hot (a different kind of hot to a flush). Plus we need to do strengthening exercises at least twice a week – easy if you’re a gym goer but with a third of women stopping physical activity during menopause this isn’t always realistic. And we all need a little motivation and support to get us exercising when everyone and everything else takes priority.
This is why we’re so excited to introduce you to the fabulous MenoHealth team who have developed a fabulous new type of class called MenoClass. This is your ultimate one-stop shop for busy women to get the right combination of support and exercise in a class that’s fun and has a welcoming atmosphere. Each session includes 15 minutes discussion on topics such as weight gain, HRT, libido, brain fog and anxiety with the aim of busting those menopause myths. Talking, sharing and supporting each other helps everyone to realise they are not going through menopause alone.
This is followed by 45 minutes of fabulous fitness routines to great music and exercises can be done at one of three levels. There’s no complex choreography, just a fun workout for heart health, some impact for boosting bones, mat work for core strength and muscle tone, balance work and stretches to keep aches and pains at bay, much-needed pelvic floor exercises followed by a mindful cool down.
Plus the team of MenoLeaders are women just like you – not gym bunnies – who can help you fit exercise into your daily routine too. Tania was a self-confessed exercise-hater who is now a convert and has trained to become a MenoLeader to inspire other women like her. “I have always hated exercise. Then I had breast cancer and have really suffered through menopause as I can’t take HRT. I wanted to stay healthy for my grandchildren so I joined a slimming group, lost four stone and it gave me a new lease of life. Now I’m dancing around the kitchen and planning my routines whenever I can; it’s just good fun and I’ve even rediscovered my waist!”
